Saludos a los Compañer@s de CASA

In the midst of the elaborate preparations for Holy Week taking place all over Mexico, March has also brought a number of other interesting events relevant to the social movements taking place in Oaxaca and Chiapas.

Brad Will Remembered

[img_assist|nid=454|title=Brad Will|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=98]On March 23rd, the family of Brad Will —the independent journalist assassinated last October— arrived in Oaxaca. Scout Finch follows the events of the week (in the aptly named) Brad Will's Family Comes to Oaxaca Demanding Justice.

Protests Against PPP

On March 29, Felipe Calderón inaugurated the second phase of a vast construction of windmills on the isthmus of Tehuantepec, a part of Plan Puebla Panamá, which has resulted in the protest of campesinos whose lands have been taken.  CASA Chapulín attended the first organizational assembly of the "Front of the Peoples of the Isthmus in Defense of Land and in Resistance against Plan Puebla Panama (PPP)", which Riccardo and Diana write about in When the Wind Blows, the Cradle Will Rock.

Community Radio

Project TUPA - Transmitters Uniting the Peoples of the AmericasCASA Chapulín has also been involved in translating for community radio workshops taught by Stephen Dunifer of TUPA - Transmitters Uniting the Peoples of the Americas.  Read more about the importance of community radio in Oaxaca in ARK's article Community radios Fighting the New Conquest of the Americas.

La Otra
