1. CALDERON NAMES NEW INTERIOR SECRETARY
Six days after a plane crash claimed the life of Juan Mouriño, President
Felipe Calderon named a new Interior Secretary.ÃÂ The choice of Fernando Gomez
Mont came as a surprise to many analysts and broke with CalderonâÂÂs tendency to
name inexperienced but loyal cabinet members.ÃÂ Gomez Mont is a well-known
lawyer and long-standing member of the National Action Party (PAN).ÃÂ His
father, Felipe Gomez Mont, was a founder and principle ideologue of the PAN.ÃÂ
He is close to Diego Fernandez de Cevallos, one the most polemic, corrupt and
conservative figures in PANismo.ÃÂ
During several decades as a lawyer, Gomez Mont defended many high profile cases
involving important political figures, including Raul Salinas de Gotari, brother
of former President Carlos Salinas de Gotari, who was charged with corruption
and receiving illicit funds from drug trafficking.ÃÂ In one of his first high
profile cases in 1994, Gomez Mont successfully defended Carlos Cabal Peniche
against corruption charges.ÃÂ This led to a series of important corruption cases
in which he defended high level officials, including Tomas Peñaloza, former
treasurer of the IMSS, Gerardo de Prevoisin, former Director of Aeromexico,
Jorge Lankenau, former bank executive, and Rogelio Montemayor, former Director
of Pemex.ÃÂ He served briefly as a federal Deputy along with Calderon during the
55th legislature, but has held no other elected office.ÃÂ However, Gomez Mont
knows MexicoâÂÂs electoral system well, having served as a member of the Federal
Electoral Commission and as the PAN representative to the Federal Electoral
Institute.ÃÂ He vigorously defended PAN electoral victories over the past
decade, including the fraudulent election of President Calderon.ÃÂ
During his formal presentation of the new Interior Secretary, President
Calderon emphasized that his administration would not negotiate agreements with
MexicoâÂÂs increasingly violent drug cartels.àCalderon may have felt obliged
to make this statement given Gomez MontâÂÂs defense of drug dealers and corrupt
government officials, as well as the defense of members of the Sinaloa cartel by
his close friend and political ally Diego Fernandez de Cevallos.ÃÂ The new
Interior Secretary will likely focus on CalderonâÂÂs most important current
political initiatives, including reform of the justice system, establishment of
a unified national police force, and the 2009 mid-term elections.ÃÂ The next
election cycle could prove decisive for an increasingly weak President
Calderon.ÃÂ Most experts expect the PAN to suffer significant loses at local,
state and federal levels, which could leave an already fragile Calderon
administration as little more than a caretaker government for the next three
years.àIn this context, Gomez MontâÂÂs broad experience with electoral
dynamics could portend manipulation or fraud during the mid-term elections.ÃÂ
The Interior Secretary is the second most powerful position in the Mexican
government and is traditionally seen as a stepping stone to the presidency;
however, Gomez Mont is unlikely to vie for his partyâÂÂs nomination in 2012.ÃÂ
Look for Gomez Mont to serve through the 2009 elections, then be replaced by
someone closer to Calderon.ÃÂ
2. INFLATION HITS POOREST CONSUMERS
Rampant inflation during the first two years of Felipe CalderonâÂÂs presidency
is hurting the poorest consumers most.ÃÂ Since December of 2006, the cost of the
basic food basket (CAR â an important measure of costs particularly for the
poorest consumers) increased by 43%, while the minimum wage increased by only
8%, according to a report by the Center for Multi-disciplinary Analysis of the
Economic Faculty of the UNAM.ÃÂ Almost two-thirds of Mexican workers earn three
minimum wages or less.
3. ORTEGA WINS PRD PRESIDENCY
The Federal Electoral Tribune (TEPJF) awarded Senator Jesus âÂÂChuchoâÂÂ
Ortega, leader of the New Left wing of the PRD, the partyâÂÂs presidency this
week, nearly eight months after highly controversial elections marred by fraud
left the party badly divided.ÃÂ In a unanimous decision, the TEPJF gave the
disputed election to Ortega by a margin of 35,000 votes, despite widespread
fraud documented during the competition.ÃÂ Ortega filed a formal complaint with
the TEPJF, but his nearest competitor, former Mexico City Mayor Alejandro
Encinas, refused to file with the Tribunal.ÃÂ Encinas is close to former PRD
presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who lost a fraudulent 2006
election after the TEPJF lined up behind current President Felipe Calderon.ÃÂ

Desde hace tres semanas, las autoridades del Centro Federal de Readaptación Social (Cefereso) El Altiplano han impedido a la madre de Héctor Galindo Gochicoa, uno de los tres líderes del Frente de Pueblos en Defensa de la Tierra (FPDT) de San Salvador Atenco recluidos en ese penal, ingresar a la visita familiar, porque “no es su madre biológica”. No obstante, Nelly Urrutia Castañeda cuenta con un documento oficial de la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP) federal que le autoriza el ingreso por ser “madre de crianza” del detenido. “Aunque no lo tuve en mi vientre está en mi corazón. El que no me permitan verlo me hace sufrir porque nadie me puede quitar el derecho de ser su madre, porque lo soy”; por ello, exigió a las autoridades federales se le permita ejercer ese derecho. Denunció que el pasado 28 de octubre, tras el cambio de dirección en el penal de máxima seguridad, se le ha impedido el acceso a la visita familiar; “sólo nos dijeron que no podría entrar porque no soy familiar directa”. El oficio OADPRS/4551/2007 de la SSP federal, fechado el 6 de agosto de 2007, refiere: “De acuerdo con las opiniones emitidas por las áreas del Centro Federal, en consejo técnico interdisciplinario, y tomando en cuenta que el señor Héctor Galindo Gochicoa no cuenta con familia biológica, se autoriza ingresar por sala a su familia de crianza”. Explicó que cuando le autorizaron el ingreso “me obligaron a firmar como amiga y no como su madre, pues me dijeron que no pasaría nada”. Sin embargo, ahora se le impide visitarlo. “Héctor no es hijo biológico de la familia Vega Urrutia, pero desde pequeño formó parte de ella y como tal es hijo de crianza”. Galindo fue detenido durante los hechos en Atenco de 3 y 4 de mayo de 2006, donde diversos organismos nacionales e internacionales han acreditado la violación a los derechos humanos por parte de la Policía Federal Preventiva contra pobladores de ese municipio. Un año después, el 5 de mayo, se le sentenció –al igual que a sus compañeros Ignacio del Valle y Felipe Álvarez– a 67 años y medio de prisión por el delito de secuestro equiparado. Nelly Urrutia insistió en la inocencia de su hijo y aseguró que Héctor “ha sido hostigado, humillado y recibe tratos crueles en el penal”. Aseguró que desde que denunció que el tercer visitador de la CNDH, Andrés Caldero, “no ha hecho lo posible” para defender las garantías de los detenidos en ese penal, “comenzó el hostigamiento, primero me lo castigaron varias semanas, y ahora ya no me permiten verlo”.

El próximo 17 de noviembre los zapatistas de Chiapas, México y del mundo estarán de fiesta celebrando el primer cuarto de siglo de una organización político-militar que se dio a conocer con el levantamiento indígena del primero de enero de 1994, fecha histórica que marca un antes y un después no sólo de la vida política nacional, sino de las esperanzas de un pueblo y su derecho a rebelarse. Muy pocas personas, fuera de Chiapas, conocían el secreto de la incubación de un movimiento guerrillero en la selva Lacandona. Diez años de organización clandestina tuvieron que pasar para que los pueblos mayas y los insurgentes que conforman el Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional decidieran declarar la guerra al gobierno de México y su ejército. Y de aquel despertar ya pasaron otros 15 años. Diez años de crecimiento en la oscuridad, en el silencio de quienes no tienen nada más que perder. Entre 1983 y 1993 los zapatistas estuvieron solos. Un periodo de su historia que ha sido develado en retazos y aún no alcanza a dimensionarse. Una década casi inverosímil e inimaginable, a no ser por los testimonios de quienes participaron en el crecimiento y consolidación de un ejército formado por miles de combatientes y decenas de miles de bases de apoyo. Son ellos y ellas los cumpleañeros de plata. Como cada año, habrá fiestas en campamentos y pueblos zapatistas, como también se alistan celebraciones en muchas partes de México y del mundo. En el barrio 10 de París habrá fiesta con cuscús berebere organizado por el Comité de solidaridad con los pueblos de Chiapas en lucha, mientras el próximo 20 de noviembre el baile se realizará en Münster, Alemania, en un acto en el que se proyectará el documental La Rebelión de la Dignidad. Todo noviembre fue elegido por diversos colectivos de Grecia para celebrar a los pueblos zapatistas. En Atenas, Salónica, Patras, Ioanina y Creta habrá encuentros y charlas sobre el camino de la autonomía zapatista. Y en la ciudad de Gotemburgo, Suecia, se organiza para el 29 de noviembre un festival latinoamericano con ritmos “X-tremadamente latinos”, en apoyo a los pueblos originarios del sureste mexicano y de El Salvador. En Austria se prepara la fiesta “Todos los colores de Viena” este 15 de noviembre y el mero 17 habrá una noche cultural con música, fotos y documentales. En Zaragoza, España, hubo jolgorio zapatista el 14 de noviembre y toda una jornada de actividades para denunciar la represión en San Salvador Atenco y difundir la autonomía de los pueblos de Chiapas. Es un cuarto de siglo, pero, como diría el teniente coronel Moisés, “es muy poco, falta”. Enhorabuena y gracias a todos los pueblos cumpleañeros.

Ayer (13 de Noviembre) a las 11:00pm de la noche en la población de Mucuchíes un comando con armas largas, pasamontañas y de acento colombiano; secuestraron a 5 personas; 3 de ellas reconocidos educadores de la Misión Sucre y de la Universidad Simón Rodríguez, Programa Simón de Los Pueblos a saber: Magaly Lobo (Venezolana); Nestor Espindola (Chileno); Janette Tangarife; su Sra. Madre y su esposo Jaime Edgar López Arevallo, estos últimos de nacionalidad Colombiana.
Los profesores de las Instituciones Venezolanas eran agroecologistas activos quienes desde hace varios años, vienen trabajando en nuestra comunidad, mereciéndose el respeto y el afecto de todos los integrantes de la Red Social de Agroecología de Mucuchíes y de los productores; productoras; campesinos; campesinas de la zona del paramo.

RED SOCIAL DE AGROECOLOGIA DE MUCUCHIES
Last night the at the Revolutionary Autonomous Communities fundraiser for the Anarchist Bookfair at the food not bombs warehouse on 6th and Santa Fe was raided by the LAPD. They kicked open the door and unlawfully entered in to the private space. Joaquin Cienfuegos a member of RAC and Copwatch LA Guerrilla chapter was targeted by the police and pulled out from the space. When folks inside the space heard what was going on in front they went over to observe and document what was going on. Joaquin asked why he was being detained and they told him to "Shut up" and "Do as he's told". He was handcuffed and searched without his permission. While he was being searched Joaquin stated loud and clear that he did not consent to their search and once again asked to please be told why he was being detained.
While i was at the door way observing what they were doing to the comrade outside i could see the the street was blocked off and there were about 12 police cars on 6th street and about 30 or more Deputies/Depupigs. As we tried to get cameras to document what was going on the police rushed the door again and i was pulled outside by 4 police officers. They pushed me against the wall and made me place my hands on top of my head and searched me. I asked the Officer why i was being detained and he said, "A crime had been committed a few blocks away and they were going to bring the victim to identify the person." As i was pulled out, the folks inside closed the door to prevent the rush of pigs into the property. They began to kick the door and yell
at the folks inside to get out. Not once did they announce themselves as the Police Department or why they were there or wanted folks to exit the show. Police officers were outside making joke;" Do you smell that? i think its weed, we should go inside and find out", and "This is some
kind of illegal rave or show or what do we call it?". Clearly unable to choose a reason why they were trying to raid the space they made up whatever we want.
After i had been searched, a female officer came over and i asked once again why i was being detained. She stated that this was an illegal gathering and they wanted to figure it all out. Officers were walking all over the front in very confused manner having to be told by other
officers to move out of the way. I could see the shadows on the officers behind me and Joaquin who continued to hold their hands on their weapons while we were handcuffed with our hands behind our backs.
After the police ignored the request by the owner of the space to present a search warrant or leave the private property, the comrades from the Black Liberation Party that were there in part to perform for the fundraiser exited the building and were immediately detained and sister Nadia and Kambui were placed in handcuffs and the rest of the the Black Riders where made to face the wall. The police then rushed inside and pulled everyone out. They had us right in front of the space and then made me walk down the blocked as they lined everyone up against the wall. They pull more than 60 people out from the space and had them with their hands against their back facing the wall. They separted the women from the men and began to search everyone.
A police officer that searched me came and asked for my ID. They said they were going to check me for warrants or any priors. He pulled out my ID and pulled out a card that he began to fill in with all my personal information. I asked what that card was for but i was not given an answer. My ID was retuned but the card with my information was kept by them.
After they searched everyone's belongings they lined up all the males and females and said that this was going to be a line-up and they were going to bring the the victim of the crime to identify the perpertrator. When asked what crime (had been committed) an officer told another brother
that they had had a crime committed a few blocks away and some beer was stolen from a liquor store. When asked why so many officers where there for stolen beer the officer said, "He didnt know", that they just felt that whoever committed the crime was in the space.
A police helicopter was circling and made the announcement after everyone was removed that they were the LAPD. 2 folks from food not bombs who were in the premise were pulled out and placed in handcuffs.
A police car with 2 Officers in the front and a woman in the back seat drove by slowly. The officers proceeded to tell people to look into the light and not look at the car. Everyone said they couldn't look at the light because it hurt their eyes but the officers from inside continued to shine the light into people's eyes. As this was going on, officers continued to line up and make jokes about "overtime" and the way different folks were dressed. For one officer in particular he lamented his rookie friend, "was off tonight because he would have loved to have been a part of this!" As the police car made its way down the street they stopped and singled out one youth . He was immediately arrested. They drove back again slowly and continued to point the light in people's face. My handcuffs were removed but i was not allowed to leave. i was made to remain facing the fence with my hands behind my back.
After a police officer from some other car came with a pience of paper and pointed to Nadia and Kambui from the black Riders Liberation Part and said they were being detained for "148"- interfering with a police officer. When people asked why they were being detained or singled out police officers told them to shut up. They placed them both in cuffs and removed all their belongings and put them into plastic bags. They were then placed into the backseat of a police car.
Another police officer came and then annonced that the party was over and people needed to leave. People still had equipment inside and were made to line up and escorted inside to get thier belongings. While inside i noticed that money from the fundraiser was missing and according to folks inside the money was there before the police ran inside to pull everyone out. We got out all the groups' equipment and waited for someone to come close the space. They continued to harass people and tried to intimidate many of the youth to leave and to learn their lesson.
Besides the one youth that was arrested for supposedly stealing beer, everyone was arrested for interfering with a police officer when all they asked was why they were being detained.
The officers were congragulating themselves and laughing at everyone. Many of the officers were staring down many of the sisters that were there and making sexist jokes about he'd rather be home with his wife than here. Then he proceeded to make a hand gesture to 2 sisters who were standing near by. No one but the other officers were amused by these pigs but they continued to talk shit and tell people to leave. The majority officers left smiling and staring at folks in attempts to instigate some incident to lead to further arrest.
While we were waiting the final officer drove by and rolled down his window. He stated" Im sorry we had to shut down your party but you have to keep the youngsters in check and can't be letting them go anywhere stealing beer. If they hadn't stolen the beer we wouldnt have cancelled
your show"
Everyone was pissed as this provacateur behavior which is being utilized as the excuse to enter into private property and raid a peaceful gathering. The police looked for whatever excuse to shut the show down.
Joaquin is currently being held for misdemeanor . He has not been taken to jail and is still being held by Central Division. He will probably be going to court tomorrow or Wednesday. Please speard the word help support Joaquin and the Black Riders Liberation Party and Food Not Bombs folks to get out.
This is a quick report trying to include as many of the important details as possible but i'm sure i might have overlooked other important details from last night that other folks who were also there can maybe share and i will try and write more about last night later tonight and will follow up with more details.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, 16 de noviembre.- El frío, la niebla y la llovizna acompañan la tercera y última jornada del IX CIPSL, además del calor humano y el cafecito caliente que nos ofrecen las y los compas del Cideci.
A lo largo de tres días se ha hecho historia de los congresos, se han discutido aportes de América a la liberación desde muy distintos ámbitos, se ha hablado de derechos humanos, de arte y espacios cultuales, de jóvenes, de educación y
liberación, de violencia e impunidad, de mujeres, migración, pueblos originarios, de género...
Antes de dar fin al evento, se dio lectura al pronunciamiento de este IX Congreso Internacional de Psicología Social de la Liberación y se aprobó otro pronunciamiento de apoyo al pueblo colombiano.
La próxima cita es encontrarse en El Salvador para conmemorar el décimo aniversario de Ignacio Martín Baró y la propuesta, que Venezuela sea el país que acoja el X CIPSL en 2010.

16 de noviembre de 2008.- La JBG de Morelia denuncia las recientes agresiones contra bases de apoyo zapatistas en el Ejido de Santa Rosalía en el Municipio Autónomo Lucio Cabañas, municipio de Comitán.
Las agresiones han sido perpetradas por un grupo paramilitar que lleva años operando en la zona, con la complicidad de los gobiernos estatal y federal y la activa participación de funcionarios del gobierno municipal. Estas agresiones incluyen a lo largo del año asesinatos, intentos de asesinato, intentos de violación, golpizas, secuestros, disparos contra el Caracol y la Junta de Buen Gobierno, amenazas de violación y amenazas de muerte contra mujeres, hombres y niños bases de apoyo zapatistas, así como el robo de un camión y su carga.
El 10 de noviembre pasado el grupo paramilitar secuestra a tres bases de apoyo zapatistas: Armando Hernández Pérez, Mario Gómez Díaz, y Mardonio Gómez Díaz. Durante el secuestro los bases de apoyo zapatistas son amenazados con armas de fuego y Marcelino Gómez López, Consejo de Vigilancia, autoridad local que ha encabezado históricamente el grupo paramilitar, intentó asesinar con su arma de fuego a Juan Carlos Gómez Díaz, sin embargo su arma no funcionó.
La agresión se extendió contra compañeros y compañeras bases de apoyo zapatistas que intentarón solidarizarse con los secuestrados. El grupo agresor golpeó lo mismo a mujeres embarazadas que a hombres. Realizando amenazas de violación contra las mujeres y amenazas de muerte contra los hombres.
Las agresiones dieron por saldo 10 bases de apoyo zapatistas heridos: 5 mujeres y 5 hombres, así como el robo de un camión y 10 docenas de madera que era un acopio solidario para la compañera Matilde Pérez Gómez, pues el 13 de enero de 2008, asesinaron a su esposo Ernesto Hernández Gómez en un hecho que las autoridades locales se han negado a investigar. La Junta de Buen Gobierno señala a Javier Gómez Sántiz, Armando Méndez Hernández, Mariano Pérez Hernández, Fidencio Hernández Jiménez, Raymundo López Gómez, José Pérez Hernández y su grupo paramilitar como autores de este asesinato.
El motivo de las agresiones es la tala clandestina que por un lado hace este grupo paramilitar, escudado en la omisión cómplice de los gobiernos municipales, estatales y federal y de la PROFEPA. Por otra por el cerco paramilitar y federal para impedir que las bases de apoyo zapatistas en el ejido puedan recoger leña para su uso doméstico. Tambien la pretensión de arrebatar la tierra de los ejidatarios bases de apoyo zapatistas.
Tras estas agresiones vehículos de la policía estatal sectorial se han presentado en actitud intimidatoria contra los zapatistas.
La Junta de Buen Gobierno ha tratado de establecer contactos conciliatorios, que han sido recibidos con nuevas agresiones del grupo paramilitar y con la aquiscencia del presidente municipal de Comitán: Oscar Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, así como disparos contra el Caracol y la Junta.
La Junta de Bueno Gobierno del Caracol de Morelia presenta una lista de 20 paramilitares participantes en las agresiones: 1.- Marcelino Gómez López, consejo de vigilancia, 2.- Javier Gómez Sántiz (actual trabajador de la presidencia municipal), 3.- Armando Méndez Hernández (actual trabajador de la presidencia de Comitán), 4.- Caralampio Hernández Gómez, Agente municipal, 5.- Fidencio Hernández Jiménez, secretario del agente municipal, 6.- Raymundo López Gómez, preparador de sacramento de la religión católica, 7.- José Pérez Hernández, 8.- Mariano Pérez Hernández, 9.- Cristóbal Díaz Gómez, comisariado ejidal, 10.- Jorge Gómez Díaz, preparador de sacramento de la religión católica, 11.- Caralampio Hernández López, tesorero del consejo de vigilancia., 12.- Santiago Hernández Gómez, 13.- Sebastián Gómez Díaz, catequista de la religión católica, 14.- Julio Gómez Sántiz, 15.- Venancio Díaz Gómez, secretario del consejo de vigilancia, 16.- Eduardo Gómez Hernández, 17.- Leonardo Hernández Méndez, 18.- Juan Gómez Díaz, presidente de la iglesia, 19.- Alberto Hernández Pérez y 20.- Eduardo Díaz Gómez.
La Junta de Buen Gobierno los hace responsables de otros intentos de homicidios contra niños y adultos bases de apoyo zapatistas.
