GuatemalaSurely by now you are aware of the devastating effects hurricane Stan has caused the Central American region.  The Western and Central Highlands of Guatemala and the Pacific Coast were struck by relentless rains for five days, resulting in major landslides and the bursting of rivers, which swept away homes, roads, bridges and crops, leaving many communities without access to communication, basic supplies or medical attention.

Hurricane Stan hits Chiapas, Guatemala

Article written by Administrator

Hurricane Stan is fading now into a tropical storm, having left a trail of mudslides, downed bridges, and overflowing rivers in its wake throughout Guatemala and parts of Chiapas. The southwestern Chiapas bordertown of Tapachula was especially hard hit, and latest reports indicate it remains isolated, along with many villages throughout Guatemala. We wish for the safety of all those effected by the disaster.

The text that follows, written by Jen Lawhorne, is a summary based on a translated La Jornada article, with some commentary.
