The EZLN has finished their consultation with their support bases, the reason for the recent Red Alert in Chiapas, deciding to increasingly foster alliances with Mexico’s oppressed peoples and nonelectoral left and support movements worldwide against neoliberalism.

 

Right now the Carocoles remain closed, but human rights observers are still being sent to Abejas communities and other non-Zapatista communities. Most Chiapas NGOs are optimistic that soon international and civil society community projects will continue. All are waiting for more news from the EZLN about the role internationals should play in their “new phase.”
